Charlotte Nott-MacaireAt Rare

We’ve been preserving food in cans since the 19th century when a supplier to the Royal Navy hit upon a novel alternative to glass. Today, cans mean convenience, meals thrown together with minimal cooking. But they’ve come to symbolise something else… food banks, which in recent years have risen dramatically, almost unheard of before the noughties.

In this series, Charlotte paired shots of tinned sardines, macaroni cheese and peaches against colourful backgrounds with close ups evoking the beauty and comfort of canned goods, which are rarely presented in such a way.

Charlotte and her crew donated unopened surplus to a local food bank.
