At a time when global temperatures and household energy bills are rising, the sun, a free and sustainable source of power, is more important than ever. My project Sunny Side Up showcases three fascinating technologies humans are using to harness sunshine for cooking.

Fresnel Fried Egg

A cast iron pan placed directly under the hotspot created by a fresnel lens or magnifying glass can reach temperatures high enough to fry an egg.

Parabolic Tea Party

The concave parabolic dish focuses sunlight into a narrow beam hot enough to boil water.

Slow Cooked Solar Chill

The mirrored panels in a solar cooker bounce the sun around, heating the space in the same way a conventional oven would. Over the span of a sunny day the cooker can slow cook a meal.
